Mnquma Transport Indaba took place on 17 March 2016 at Msobomvu Grounds and the theme was "Transforming transportation systems for an improved economyā€¯.

The municipality realized the importance of the transport sector; as an essential component of the economy. The transport systems provide socio-economic opportunities and benefits that result in positive multiple effects such as:

  • strong effects on development and the welfare of populations,

  • better accessibility to markets,

  • employment and additional investments,

  • improved mobility by society from different destinations.

The Indaba served as a platform to provide safe, accessible and reliable transport facilities.

MEC Transport, Safety and Liaison; Ms Weziwe Tikana was invited as a guest speaker at the Indaba along with other industry experts from Road Accident Fund, Road Traffic Infringement Agency etc. 

During the Indaba, three commissions were conducted to address the key issues in improving the transport systems of Mnquma. Those commissions dealt with

  • Congestion and Road Safety

  • Public Transport Control Systems

  • Public Transport Facilities such as ranks, shelters and loading zones

MEC Tikana urged the industry to always be conscious of the enormous responsibility that it has, of being the enabler of business from the smallest to the biggest. Develop the industry , making it efficient, customer friendly and a value for money for business and all other consumers.
